Privacy Policy

Golf Courses Finder is a free directory of golf courses in the United States. You can read every page without an account, and the site has no sign-up forms, comments or payments. This policy explains what information is collected when you use the site, who receives it and what you can do about it.

Information we collect

We do not ask for your name, email address or any other details in order to use the site. The information collected is limited to the following.

  • Usage data, through Google Analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand which pages are visited and how people find the site. It records things such as the pages you view, the time and length of your visit, the page or search engine that referred you, your browser, device type and screen size, and your approximate location (country, region and city) derived from your IP address. Google Analytics does not give us your name or email address, and it does not store your full IP address.
  • Your location, if you use "Near me". The "Near me" page asks your browser for permission to share your location. The location is used on your device to sort nearby courses and is not sent to us or stored.
  • Search terms. When you type in the search box, the text you enter is sent to our database provider to find matching courses and cities. We do not link search terms to an identity.
  • Server logs. Our hosting provider automatically records technical details of each request, including IP address, browser type and the page requested, to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.
  • Email you send us. If you write to us, for example to suggest a correction, we receive your email address and whatever you include in the message.

Cookies and similar technologies

Google Analytics sets first-party cookies (such as _ga) to tell one visitor from another and to group page views into a visit. They last up to two years unless you delete them.

If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we honor it by not loading Google Analytics at all.

Separately, the site keeps one small value in your browser's session storage so that the home page photograph changes between visits. It contains no personal information and is erased when you close the tab.

We do not use advertising cookies and we do not show ads.

How we use information

  • To measure which pages are useful and improve the directory.
  • To return search results.
  • To keep the site secure and available.
  • To reply to messages and act on corrections you send.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

Services that receive data

Using the site involves the following outside services, each of which handles data under its own privacy policy.

Course pages link to the courses' own websites. Those sites are not operated by us and this policy does not cover them.

Your choices

  • Opt out of Google Analytics. Turn on Global Privacy Control in your browser, install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, or block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site works the same without them.
  • Ask about your information. Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what personal information is held about you, to have it corrected or deleted, and to opt out of certain uses. To make a request, write to hello@golfcoursesfinder.com. We will not treat you differently for making a request.

Retention

Google Analytics data is kept for up to 14 months. Server logs are kept by our hosting provider for a limited period. Email is kept for as long as needed to deal with your message.

Children

The site is a general reference and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Visitors outside the United States

The site is operated from the United States and intended for people there. If you visit from elsewhere, your information will be processed in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
